The dream of a return to the big time remains very much alive for Villa,
who take on a QPR side that may already have one eye on their summer
Depending on results elsewhere, Villa could move to within a point of
the second automatic promotion berth with a win.
Villa have been nigh-unstoppable at home recently. They have taken 13
home points from the last 15 available, and have usually been without
mercy when leading at half-time, returning a record of: W8, D1, L0.
Although QPR’s away form is not the very worst, defending on the road is
clearly an issue. In a record spanning back to the end of 2016/17, the
west London club has kept just one clean sheet in the last 22 away
Known for his brutal honesty, Ian Holloway criticised his men after
losing 5-2 at home to Nottingham last weekend, saying: “The basic
principles weve talked about while Ive been here, theyve normally done
really well. That was as bad as Ive seen.”
Players to watch: Lewis Grabban (14 goals) and Albert Adomah (13) are
locked in a friendly rivalry to end the season as Villa’s top
goalscorer. A hat-trick for Grabban could put him joint-top of the
Championship scoring charts, depending on results elsewhere.
After conceding five against Nottingham Forest, QPR keeper Alex Smithies
will be eager to atone – albeit at a very tough venue. He will need to
start by improving his distribution accuracy, which currently stands at
Stat attack: Though they have scored against QPR in each of their last
four games against them, Villa are without a clean sheet in three games
(in all comps).
Victory for Villa in this one would take them to within one victory of
levelling the all time series with QPR (currently: W21, D13, L23). It
would also represent Villa’s first ever completion of back-to-back
league doubles over QPR.
Aston Villa will be looking to build on a 4-2 win over Sheffield
Wednesday when they welcome Queens Park Rangers at their Villa Park on
Saturday afternoon. The Villans are eyeing a top-two finish, which will
see them secure automatic promotion to the Premier League, but the
season is quite long. Steve Bruces troops have been impressive at home
ground this season and seeing that their next rivals have little to play
for in the remainder of the season, we predict that the hosts are going
to pick up all three points from Saturdays football match. The Hoops,
who experienced all sorts of problems at the back in a 5-2 loss to
Nottingham Forest at the weekend, do not seem to be on top of their game
at the moment and they are unlikely to spoil Aston Villas party at Villa
